Trees cleared from the site were milled and used as interior finishes for the Cedar Hill Room, the building’s most dynamic and prominent public space. Building a single structure to house three public entities resulted in a 20% savings on construction costs and will produce comparable savings in on-going operating costs.
ENHANCING COMMUNITIES
Community heritage is passed down to future generations by the use of regional building materials such as Texas rose-colored limestone as well as by the use of regional symbols including the “Star of Texas” as a decorative theme in flooring, lighting and architectural details.
The design process encouraged community involvement in the programming, planning, and design of the Center. Intense user participation played an important part in successfully integrating the new Government Center with the character and function of the City of Cedar Hill.
