The Student Union at this large Texas university campus is one of those buildings that had been added onto repeatedly and the task was to add once again. The University, like many others, has carefully defined design requirements including a prescribed palette of materials and a directive to employ the materials in a manner that new structures compliment the Spanish Renaissance inspired campus architecture. The challenge to connect the new building to the campus fabric was not viewed as a restriction but as a springboard that led to an imaginative and sophisticated solution.
