CONNECTIONS

Texas Tech University, Student Union
Lubbock, Texas

Date: 2003 and 2005 Size: 212,000 s.f.

The project fits into the campus not by recreating design details but instead utilizes the guidelines to create connections between the building and its immediate surroundings. The cream colored Texas limestone is from the same quarry as the oldest campus structures yet the wormy, "turkey track" fossil-encrusted stone accents allow the surfaces to have shadows and depth offering a similar yet less expensive alternative to the custom, hand-cut ornamental stone of the campus original buildings.
