University of Central Florida, Library Expansion StudyOrlando, FloridaDate: 2004
Size: 371,000 s.f.The library at this fast growing university was the first campus building when there were just 1,500 students. Today, the University has almost 40,000 students and more expected growth in the near future yet the library has not kept pace. It is vital to establish a plan for expansion and create a new place where information and knowledge can be discovered. The library of today is so much more than a collection of books; thus determining a balance between the collections, the technology involved, and the social aspect of modern libraries all come into play. The process begins and ends with an understanding of needs and this can only come from an intelligent measure of what is, what can be, and what ultimately should be.
