SPIRIT

University of the South, McClurg Hall
Sewanee, Tennessee

Date: 2001 Size: 43,000 s.f.

The dining hall sits next to the historic All Saints' Chapel and Holzman Moss Architecture initiated the reopening of a campus quarry to use matching multi-hued sandstone rich with texture and subtle variations. The steadfast pursuit of the stone shows both ingenuity but also fortitude to establish a design that built upon the spirit of the most revered buildings on campus and yet did so in a thoroughly modern, and functional manner.
